FROM THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE OF CANADA:
The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Mike Poole of the Halifax Hurricanes has been named Player of the Week for the week ending January 6, 2019. This is the third time that the Hurricanes have had a Player of the Week in the 2018-19 season.
Poole, a 6'5" forward who played collegiately at Iona, helped the Hurricanes win their two games this week by averaging 32.0 points per game, including a 39-point effort in a victory over the Saint John Riptide.
"Earlier in the season, he was barely averaging nine points per game," said Hurricanes head coach Mike Leslie. "We sat down and had a really good chat about him wanting to be more aggressive off the ball, and he's taken that on himself. He's in the gym every day shooting the basketball in an enormous number of repetitions. Shooters are going to shoot their way out of a slump, and it's a recognition of what he could do - all the ways he could potentially score, for example. It's hard work on his end."
Poole and the Hurricanes are back in action at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax on Saturday, Jan. 12 against the division-leading Moncton Magic at 7 p.m. Buy your tickets at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office or online.
