The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Antoine Mason of the Halifax Hurricanes has been named Atlantic Division Player of the Week for the week ending December 31, 2017. He joins CJ Washington, who earned Player of the Week honours for the Hurricanes on December 10.
Mason, a 6'4" guard who played collegiately at Auburn, averaged 29.0 ppg for the Hurricanes, including 32 points in a Halifax 123-116 road victory on Sunday against the Island Storm.
"Overall, Antoine's just looking to attack the basket," said Halifax head coach Mike Leslie. "On top of that his free throw shooting, because he's getting to the line and knocking down those shots, he's not forcing the issue. He's relying on his teammates, and that creates better space and form when he's getting to the rim. The game is coming to him, he's taking advantage when he can."
"My father and I are competitors," said Antoine Mason, whose father Anthony starred in the NBA for several years. "We have a chip on our shoulder - we don't want anybody to get better than us, and we want to do everything we can for our team."
